Richard C. Levy is president of Richard C. Levy & Associates, a company specializing in collaborative invention and licensing. RCL&A primarily feeds concepts to the toy industry. Richard’s licensed products include Furby (Hasbro), the animatronic creature that has sold more than 70 million units in 57 countries, and 12 languages.
Richard’s licensed games include best-sellers Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus (Mattel), Chicken Soup for the Soul (Cardinal) and Adverteasing (Cadaco). He has created premiums for P&G (Crest), General Foods (Pebbles) and Ralston-Purina (Cookie Crisp). Among his latest games are: InSANDity (Fat Brain); Go Fish, You Wish (Mindware); BrainBolt (Educational Insights) and Dirty Words (University Games).
The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Cashing In on Your Inventions (2nd edition) is Richard’s twelfth book. The eBook edition of his critically acclaimed The Toy and Game Inventor’s Handbook (3nd edition) is available through Amazon at The Toy and Game Inventor's Handbook. A member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, Richard’s articles have appeared in dozens of publications including the Sunday newspaper supplement Parade.
Richard served two consecutive terms on the board of directors of Intellectual Property Owners. He is listed in Who’s Who in Entertainment, has been profiled by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, New York Times, Washington Post, Inventor’s Digest, and The Discovery Channel’s “Invention” series. Richard received the Small Business Administration’s Innovation Award.
After graduating from Emerson College with a degree in television and cinematography, and completing an internship with the president of Paramount Pictures International, Richard was assigned to Central America to run Paramount’s ad/pub. At age 22, he managed foreign ad/pub for Joseph E. Levine’s Avco Embassy Overseas Pictures. He launched over 30 feature films between both corporate stints.
During the first Reagan Administration, Richard was appointed Deputy Director of the USIA’s Television and Film Service, a Senior Executive Service position. He was a principal architect of WorldNet, the interactive satellite network that connects Washington, D.C. with American embassies worldwide. He produced more than 30 documentaries, the last being a bio pic about Hal David, songwriter and former president of ASCAP.
A popular speaker, Richard has addressed the Licensing Executives Society, at the USPTO’s National Inventor’s Day, the National Science Foundation’s Conference on Industrial Science and Technological Innovation, IBM’s Inventor Dinner, Wharton’s Entrepreneurship Conference, at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and at University of Hawaii’s Shidler College of Business, to name a few appearances.
In January, 2017, Richard co-composed and recorded a song with Wyclef Jean. It is titled “Never Give Up.”
Richard hails from Scranton, PA. He has lived in New York City, Madrid, Paris, Rome and Panama City. Conversant in five foreign languages, and traveling since his early teens, Richard has visited 125 countries, all seven continents and every state in the United States and its capital.
